FAQ's

Here are some answers to some

commonly asked questions.

What is counselling?

Counselling is a service for people looking for support in times of crisis or confusion in their lives. It is a trusting and confidential space and relationship to deal with emotional issues and concerns. It is very important to choose a counsellor who you  feel you can trust and who you connect with - you must feel comfortable to talk openly about the problems and issues that are troubling you. Only you can know if you might benefit from talking to a professional rather than with friends and family. Counselling can help you develop new ways of coping, a different point of view in which to see situations and people that might not be clear at the present moment, and provides a listening ear to talk to. Talking about our difficulties can help us make sense of them and move on. Clarity is often what is needed in order for you to live the life you desire.

I'm nervous about making an appointment, is this normal?

Many people are anxious when they first call a counsellor or attend a counselling session. This is a huge step for you and new territory. I appreciate your trust in me and I do everything I can to make you feel welcome, supported, and comfortable.

What happens at my first appointment?

Your first session will be spent with you and the counsellor learning a little about each other and talking about the issues that have brought you into counselling. From there a treatment plan or future goals will be worked on aimed at addressing your issues and concerns.

.

How long does a counselling session last?

Each session is 50-60 minutes long, however at Clarity Quest this is flexible and can be discussed on your first appointment.

How often do I need to see my counsellor?

Regular weekly sessions are recommended but this is flexible depending on your needs and schedule.

Can I receive counselling by telephone or email?

Face to face counselling sessions are always preferable, but as people get busier and life more hectic there has been a growing demand for this kind of service. Please contact Clarity Quest Counselling to discuss your own situation and together we can decide if this type of counselling might work for you.

Is what I discuss private?

In counselling what you say is strictly between you and your counsellor. At Clarity Quest Counselling your privacy is taken seriously. Any information discussed or shared by you is treated confidentially and can only be released to a third party with your written consent or in those limited cases where the release of information is required by law.
